A Peek Behind the Shelves at Hall Family Books
Ever wonder where the stories you love so much come from? At Hall Family Books, every single book you find on our shelves has a story of its own—and so does the journey it takes to get to you. We’re RJ and Ashlyn Hall, and we believe our books are more than just paper and ink; they are pieces of history, and we love sharing the process of how they find their way to our bookstore and, eventually, to your home.
Our inventory process isn’t like a big commercial operation. It’s a true family affair! Most weekends, you’ll find us—RJ, Ashlyn, and our son—on a day trip to used book sales. These aren’t just shopping trips; they’re treasure hunts. We search for vintage and rare books, volumes with rich historic stories, and unique topics that you simply don’t find everywhere. It’s a special time for us to bond as a family while pursuing a passion that we’ve now been able to share with all of you.
Once our new “finds” make it back to our office, the real work (and a bit of a dance) begins! I (RJ) take on the role of photographer. Each book gets its own personal photoshoot to showcase its unique character, from a beautifully worn cover to the delicate details of its pages. I love capturing the essence of each vintage piece, ensuring the photos truly represent the book’s history and charm.
While I’m capturing the beauty of the books, my wife, Ashlyn, is busy behind the scenes. She meticulously creates the listing templates for our store channels. This involves carefully researching each book to determine its history and value, ensuring every detail is accurate and authentic. Ashlyn is a master at building the perfect description that makes you feel like you’re holding the book in your hands, even when you’re just browsing online. Once she’s done, I fine-tune the listings, adding those final personal touches before they go live on our store.
Our favorite part of the entire process, however, is what happens after you place an order. With every book we pack, we include a branded thank you card. It’s a small, printed gesture, but it’s our way of saying thank you and making sure every customer feels a personal connection to our family and our shop. Your support allows us to continue our family adventures and our treasure hunts, and we are so grateful for every single one of you.
